Pilot Coating refers to the use of a proto-type scale manufacturing line to perform experimental, developmental or scale up activities for roll-to-roll coated materials. The Pilot Coating phase of a roll coated product lifetime usually extends from concept testing to scale-up or Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). Pilot Coating activities can include evaluation of various coating methods, development of a new or unique process, evaluation of alternative raw materials, making samples for evaluation/product testing, and optimization of processing conditions.
