Scaling up a formula from a lab scale “prototype” to a full scale production batch requires an optimization stage. Moving from small sized lab batches to large scale production batches introduces critical changes to the system that must be addressed. These are brought on by a variety of factors including liquid flow properties, thermal transfer parameters, dispersion and shear properties, and more. Any effort to skip over this stage will almost inevitably result in poorly developed properties in the final product.
