Polymers are used extensively in the Automotive and allied industries. Rubber for tires and hoses have been used since the early days. More recently, many auto body parts that used to be made of rolled steel have been replaced by polymer based composites. Interiors are almost exclusively polymer based materials, including dashboards, floor coverings, seat covers, and interior trim. Even safety glass is made possible because of polymers. The list of polymers used for these application is broad but some of the major types include natural and synthetic rubber, TPE’s, PVC, PVDF, acrylics, and epoxies. Coating applications include paints and clearcoats, and adhesives are used for bonding composite parts together.
